Bienvenidos a Madrid!

We left Chicago on Saturday, and as far as our bodies are concerned it is still Saturday night/Sunday morning.

We have rented an apartment in the Salamanca barrio, just blocks from the Retiro and our friends Pamela and Tom.  The Apartment is lovely in a 1950’s meets a bit of IKEA way, and all of the bedrooms have classic bedroom furniture and armoirs.  The baths are all muy moderno, and that is where there cognitive dissonance begins.

But we have a view from the terrace:

Today things are a little hazy and overcast. There is a chance of rain, but the Madrileños that are running the half marathon today are probably pretty happy.  Frankly, it beats 27° F in the morning and frost on my car.

So, we aren’t sure what our afternoon and our jet lagged girls will allow us to accomplish, but we are thinking that a trip on the metro to el Rastro or Plaza Mayor might just be what we need.  Our guide and host, Tom, will help me go to a small market to grab some beverages and breakfasty things for the morning.

All in all, still in love with Madrid.

Glad you made it safely. Sounds like the Ambian didn’t work. So sorry!

Enjoy the trip. Keep us posted.

It worked – sorta, Liz. But I think everyone was just way too stoked. That and the beverage service was also food service so we all consumed “beef or chicken” and perhaps that messed with it too.

We were good until we stopped moving.

Thanks – I am going to use one tonight to ensure that at least I am on a normal schedule.

    Yay for Espana.
Ambien never works for me on flights to Europe… but I’m usually so excited to be there it didn’t matter 🙂

We ARE excited. I’ll post pictures and a blog about today’s excursion to the Rastro, some amazing tapas, and running into people from work. Seriously – can a girl not get away?

      Fun and food!!

I did! Tom and I had a morning walk and a coffee today. So I passed along your greetings, and he wanted me to tell you to come on over and to ask when the Rockmes are playing Madrid.
